About the Instructors
Movement Specialist
Lorin brings expertise in a unique art form to his work as both an actor and an instructor: Theatrical Mime. Trained in Paris by the legendary master of mime Marcel Marceau, Lorin uses mime skills to teach actors how to master their body movement and create characters that visually express personality, thought, and emotion. For motion capture in particular, he also uses mime to teach actors how to act on an empty mocap stage, interacting with environments, objects, and sometimes characters that are visible only in the actor’s imagination until the animators add these visual elements later on.
For more than twenty years, Lorin has taught actors and a wide variety of other performers — including improvisers, dancers, clowns, cirque artists, magicians, jugglers, and ice skaters — how to use the body expressively in their performance. He is a movement coach for star-name talent in major Hollywood film, television, and commercial productions; he conducts workshops for Cirque du Soleil’s resident and touring shows; and he developed a program called Character Movement for Animation that he has taught at leading animation studios and universities, including Disney, DreamWorks, Sony, Ohio State University, and Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.
As an actor, Lorin has appeared in film, on television, and in national commercials, and in theatre and live performance in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, Paris, and Israel. He has been a motion capture actor for short films and research projects, and a character movement reference actor for animated television series, DVD movies, and Internet content, including such children’s favorites as Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake.
